Position Purpose
The Trainee Controller is trained to support the safe and efficient movement of petroleum products through the pipeline network. The role involves operating highly specialised equipment according to scheduled programmes and instructions.
The trainee must pay close attention to product volume and quality, the safety of personnel and company assets, as well as the needs of internal and external customers.
Position Outputs
During the training programme, the Trainee Controller will be trained to perform a range of operational duties, including:
Risk and Pollution Control
The trainee will learn how to communicate information about the risk status of the depot to relevant people and report and document important information.
Duties include extracting information from applicable systems, applying company policies and legislation relating to risk, and ensuring that permits, clothing, restrictions and instructions are followed.
The trainee may also monitor separator tanks, detect leaks and spillages, drain water from bund areas and handle transmixtures or intermixtures.
Pipeline Operations
The trainee will learn to communicate relevant operational information and use company operating systems and software to control pipeline equipment.
