OVERVIEW:
The Higher Certificate in Auxiliary Nursing is a comprehensive, one-year program designed to equip aspiring healthcare professionals with the foundational skills and knowledge required to excel as registered auxiliary nurses.

MAIN PURPOSE OF COURSE
This comprehensive three-year program is designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience necessary to successfully qualify and register as a Registered General Nurse.
Upon successful completion of the program, you will be eligible to apply for registration with the appropriate nursing regulatory body, allowing you to practice as a qualified Registered General Nurse and embark on a rewarding career in healthcare.

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES
This comprehensive programme is meticulously designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and professional attributes necessary to achieve registration as a General Nurse, as defined by Regulation 171 of 8 March 2013.
Upon successful completion of the programme and subsequent registration, the Registered General Nurse holding a Diploma in Nursing will possess a robust foundation in nursing theory and practice.
This foundation will enable them to competently deliver holistic and patient-centered nursing care to individuals across the lifespan and presenting with a diverse spectrum of health conditions.
This care extends beyond simply addressing immediate medical needs; it encompasses the physical, psychological, social and spiritual well-being of the patient.
REQUIRED EDUCATION
From 2008 (compulsory subjects) and minimum rating scale:
- Grade 12, at an NQF level 4, with minimal requirements for admission to higher certificate studies, as gazetted for higher education
- English level 4
- Life (Biology) or Physical Science level 3
- Mathematics Literacy level 4 or Mathematics level 3
- Minimum of 19 points (20 points if Mathematical Literacy applies), which excludes Life Orientation
- Computer Literacy (NQF Level 3) will serve as a recommendation
- Old Senior Certificate
Before 2008 (compulsory subjects) and minimum rating scale:
- Grade 12 with an aggregate of 950 marks or higher
- English with a min mark of HG symbol D or SG symbol C
- Life (Biology) or Physical Science with a min mark of HG symbol E or SG symbol D
- Mathematics with a min mark of HG symbol E or SG symbol D
- Computer literacy (NQF Level 3) will serve as a recommendation
- National Vocational Certificate
National Vocational Certificate, equivalent to Grade 12 at a NQF level 4 and compulsory subjects
- English level 5
- Life (Biology) or Physical Science level 4
- Mathematics Literacy level 5 or Mathematics level 4
- Minimum 24 points (25 points if Mathematical Literacy applies), which excludes Life Orientation
- Computer Literacy (NQF Level 3) will serve as a recommendation
The RPL applicant has to meet the following minimum requirements:
- Have a valid Matric (grade 12) with admission to a higher or National Vocational certificate with the required APS score (as indicated above) or old senior certificate with an aggregate of 950 marks and higher with the compulsory subjects
- If a candidate does not have one of the following subjects: Life Sciences (Biology) or Physical Science (on a Grade 12 level), he/she can apply for entrance to the programme via RPL, if:
- 25 years and older
- Have a minimum of 5 years of operational experience in healthcare
- Write and pass the relevant RPL course
- Submit a motivational letter from his/her employer, if applicable
Important:
- You can only get credit for one subject through RPL.
- You must pay a fee when you apply that you will not get back.
- If it applies to you, your previous healthcare experience will be judged to see if you already know some of the material.
- You must be a citizen of South Africa.
- To be chosen, you will also need to take some tests, have an interview, and get a health check.
- You might need to go to the closest learning center that is approved for classes.
