PFG is the leading manufacturer of float glass in Southern Africa, as well as laminated glass and mirrors.

The company produces 260 000 tons of float glass products per annum, supplying into both domestic and international building and automotive industries.

Main job purpose

To provide an analytical service to sales and planning by analysing import statistics and sales data to determine the market size of flat glass in South Africa and all the neighbouring countries.

This serves as input into PFG’s IBP demand plan. Identify anomalies in trade statistics and highlight and resolve those with SARS.

Develop advanced reporting tools to assist the planning and sales departments in identifying new trends and opportunities.

Identify new/alternative suppliers of any critical imported item for the group by identifying and sourcing external import and/or export databases.  Determine world-wide benchmark costs of these critical items.

Main Objective

Develop and provide support to the planning and sales teams in determining & establishing the market size for building glass products, both locally and neighbouring countries.  

Compile data and build dashboard to maintain a glass import tracking system for Sub Saharan Africa to enable the development and refinement of sales strategies for the different regions.

Determine our market shares in each of those regions and advise on strategies to improve market shares.

Explore leading indicators that will improve predictions of future market changes for improved sales forecasts and budgets as well as enrichment of input into the IBP demand plan.

Conduct in depth analysis of complex data sets to establish true landed costs of building glass products entering Southern Africa and use this as an input to determine price strategies for each region.

Analyse import data and proactively advise SARS of possible outliers in import statistics to assist their targeted import investigation unit in finding non-compliant declarations.

The eventual aim is to build an expert system to assist SARS in identifying outliers so eventually they can find these themselves, with occasional checks to ensure the system is flagging the correct items.

Benchmark prices of automotive glass products worldwide and advise the export sales team of pricing trends to assist in developing export pricing strategies for the various regions in the world.

Identify trends and opportunities to guide procurement in identifying buyers and/or suppliers of critical products and to benchmark prices of those products for the Group. 

Critical job requirements

Qualification(s)

•            Grade 12

•            Bcom. with strong Computer Science and Statistics or B Eng. (Industrial)                            

Knowledge         

•            Knowledge of structuring large data sets and manipulation of data   

•            Statistical forecasting knowledge data model building

•            Understanding of macro-economic factors and its impact on market trends    

•            Knowledge of data visualisation dashboards and presentation

Skills      

•            Communication & Presentation Skills

Experience         

•            8 Years’ experience, preferably in an analytical role with sales and marketing experience. 

Planning experience would be an advantage.
